Organizations typically treat data as a byproduct of technology-enabled processes. Data managed at this level is focused on improving business process results. However, this approach breaks down where data is needed for integration. Analytics is at the end of the line for data, effectively exposing weakness in the data infrastructure. Without robust data management activities, data scientists and analysts are forced to remediate the quality of data they consume. This is both a source of frustration for analysts and an obstacle to achieving sharp, incisive results.

Her team created a business-centric method for evaluating an organization’s data capabilities, and she delivers actionable results for organizations in multiple industries. Ms. Mecca’s team developed a series of courses and web-based learning leading to the Enterprise Data Management Expert (EDME) certification. She presents and teaches seminars for conferences and webinars, and is a regular columnist for The Data Administration Newsletter. Ms. Mecca advocates measurement of data management capabilities as the quickest acceleration path for achieving business value, empowering governance, and advancing the organization’s data strategy.
